This is an exciting opportunity to work in our corporate office in the Atlanta area reporting to our VP of Sales. The Director, Training and Development will be responsible for design, delivery and execution of training and development content to our field sales team that includes implementation of on-going sales training in a classroom, field or web-based environments.


The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in and enjoys a fast-paced dynamic environment and can design and implement an effective sales training program.



  • Owns the business process for the training function including training administration using BrainShark
  • Analyze training needs across the organization and work with the executive leadership team to determine appropriate budget
  • Design and develop a training strategy and ensure it supports and contributes to the overall business strategy and objectives
  • Design, develop and execute product training program/curriculum for field sales team
  • Ensure documentation practices and systems are in place to monitor and maintain training requirements, history and qualifications
  • Develop and implement measurement criteria, to assess effectiveness of training, and report compliance metrics
  • Identify learning and training gaps and areas of weakness and advise the senior leadership team on solutions
  • Identify training needs and develop on-going training curriculums and materials as needed for field sales organization
  • Develop and implement quality standards for the Field Sales Trainer (FST) program, ensuring consistency of messaging and coaching in conjunction with the Sales Leadership team enabling Clinical Account Specialists to perform at their best
  • Implement advanced developmental training and on-going skills developmental training for the Sales Leadership team
  • Oversee and manage corporate Learning Management System (LMS) including reporting and compliance
  • Perform regular Field Rides with Clinical Account Specialists as identified by management
  • Manage the planning and logistics of on-site and virtual training workshops including
  • Responsible for improvement of training curriculum with new content and latest trends in development and delivery technology
  • Act as lead for major sales meetings (NSM & POA’s)



  • BA/BS Degree required, preferably in life science or business. MBA a plus
  • The ideal candidate will have 5-8 plus years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience including experience leading national home-office based training
  • Knowledgeable about current and existing training technology, resources, networks, and performance management approaches
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in Retina/Ophthalmology, and/or Specialty pharmaceuticals sales background, specialty pharmacy, and buy & bill
  • Personal confidence and presentation skills to deal with all organizational levels, including and executive audience
  • Leadership confidence to work independently and with internal and external strategic partners
  • Effective written, verbal and platform presentation skills
  • Ability to influence, collaborate and interact effectively with the senior leadership team and multiple key stakeholders across sales and marketing in order to align on objectives and provide consistent training direction
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and effective management of multiple projects/priorities including budgeting and actual spend against budget
  • Ensure that all training programs are consistent with, and supporting of, company legal, regulatory and compliance guidelines
  • Up to 50% national travel required


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Leadership and Organizational Development and/or Meeting Cycle Leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in Ophthalmology marketplace preferred
  • Specialty pharmacy and Buy & Bill experience
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills essential to success in this position
  • Strong collaboration, organizational and operations skills
